Adoration

Adoration

Father’s words have rooted
subsumed beneath mother’s bearded
irises, feeling their way through sweet peas
variegated ivy and carrots early
for the sun, celebrated by larcenous deer.

Desire shored beneath cedar eaves
elevating whispers to a blue summer moon.
She weeds ruthlessly, plucking contrition
with her shears, denuding buds by the arc
of her ragged thumbnail.

I follow, seeding the absence she sows.
Father claims the rafters, calling her soil-
stained fingers from the hunt.

She smiles, washes her hands, knocks
joints against the porcelain, hears his echo
in water and earth. His hands dust her ribs
lips hum on the join of collarbone
and shoulder.

The season embraces her skin.

Adoration
Beautiful but sad. Or am I just projecting like mad over here?
