The darkness between. The maelstrom of absence. The peace in the void. Reverberations of silence. Vacuum and void. Howl.


The plaster shivers in a room without a door or reference.

And be better off than you are.

The pillar in the throne room is missing a piece the size of a skull. Don’t remember.

Balcony. Illusion faltering.

Swing on a—

He prefers to be set on fire. Repression is exhausting. He must restrain his natural manner. The urge to laugh at his—Odin’s—guards is so overwhelming. He bites his lip bloody holding…

He has lost so much discipline in the past few weeks.

And to fool the people is his only thought.

“My lord, it is time for the council gathering.”

He very nearly rips the guard’s arm off. Temper, temper. My, he really must improve his acting skills.

“Tell them that I will be in shortly.” The guard nods and leaves.

Or would you rather be a fish?

There are only so many inane songs, epic poetry and charades he can manage to fill—no.

The waves lap the walls of the room. The edges of a door will soon appear.

Why apathy is so demonized he will never know. Madness has its refuge, as he knows well. This wound he senses—the edges of an event that will devour—what use is emotion? He will chose the void if he can. But his weakness creeps, inevitable, inexorable. Ah, alliteration, he is so very fond of it.

He will start screaming very soon.

But if that’s the sort of life you wish

The council meeting will have to be rescheduled.
