My Brother - Greg Reid

Was a brilliant man. He had a heart as great as the frame that contained it. One it took time to find. My mother and I adopted him as our own and he claimed us in turn. My mother told him he was an ass when they first met--he was shocked, because he thought he always charmed friends' parents, but it made him smile (and he could be an ass when it suited him). His family and fiance adored him. He was a proud Haida, and called me Jaas (sister). I will miss his sarcasm, ability to exasperate me, and our mutual love of movies and books. He introduced me to Batman, Akira Kurosawa, and Shogun Assassin. I introduced him to Charles De Lint, Jim Butcher, Dan Simmons and Holly Cole. He used to say my taste in music was beyond him, and believed I was well-read and intelligent, even though I never did/do.

His nephews and niece believed he hung the moon, and his finance Lana  adores him. He loved his mother dearly, and freely admitted that he was a "mama's boy." He loved to cook (especially barbeque), was just learning to bake. He was always tinkering with cars, and never happier than when he was fixing something. He always told stories, and wrote often  (he was working on a graphic novel). He loved working with children, previously at summer camps, and currently the group home he was working at with his sister until the day he died. Every life he touched was changed, and we will all remember him. He and I didn't see each other for long periods at times, but I loved him, and he always said it was as if no time had passed when we got together again. I love you Greg. I will see you again.

He was, and in ways I cannot even explain.

J met him once, when we all had coffee. While I was away from the table he told her that I was too hard on myself, and she loved him for that.

We visited his family today, and talked about him(some laughter was involved). I asked Ruby (his mother) if she would want a copy of whatever I wrote (which I haven't managed yet). She said yes. I would be happy if they burn it with him. won't read it at the service, however.

I loathe this universe at times. I really fucking do. *Hugs*
