The Other Side of Night

Title: The Other Side of Night
Author: ciaranbochna
Fandom: Sherlock/The Dresden Files crossover
Rating:  PG
Length: 402 Words
Spoilers:  All episodes of Sherlock, all Dresden Files novels.
Disclaimer: I own not the characters, nor the world. Not beta'd
A / N:  Same series--I am writing a series? 0.0 as "Catching Up" So little time....   and "Synedoche" Read more...  Title/concept is pilfered, and used by many artists, I also don't own Dresden (pity) or the current incarnation of Sherlock.
Summary: I always love to start small...

There is always discussion about omnipotence in religious scripture. I have never followed any particular way, or if I have it was so long ago that mankind was still oozing their way from the primordial filth. I cannot say they have improved overly since.

Religion. Men were never happy with a simple idea—be compassionate to your fellows, since we all connected. Or do unto others, as they say. No, men always have to add bureaucracy, hierarchy, and elaborate structure to house the unseen. Rules, commandments, laws that contradict one another—oh those are my favourites. Watching people twist their minds trying to achieve something that is impossible with a static form. This control is amusing, and corrupt in its own way. It also channels men’s focus, so they never observe anything but their own cages.

It is wonderful to have autonomy. I would almost say--it is good.

“Sherlock, where are you going? You aren’t even wearing a coat, and it’s five below out there!!”

John watches Sherlock pause for five seconds and shakes his damp hair, grabs his coat, and dashes out the door without turning around. The scarf wavers, abandoned on the hook.

He starts to get up and follow Sherlock.

Nothing like a cuppa on a cold day. John sighs and flips open the paper. He looks over at Sherlock. He is passed out on the sofa, still wrapped in his coat.

John throws a blanket over his friend and frowns. When did Sherlock get back? He remembers...

The room is filled with the sound of light snoring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always love to start small. Nothing ostentatious that would have people spinning conspiracy theories and shrieking about aliens crashing into Big Ben.

No, subtlety is always my way. Build a framework around them, so they are so comfortable with it they start to believe it is part of their homes. So they lean on it, as casual as the back of a beloved chair.

Then start to pick the scaffolding apart. Watch as they tilt their heads and listen to the groan, the fragmenting. Denying what is under their hands. So dependent on each other, on what they believe, that it will take everything down with it when I flick the first nail.

I have always loved the architecture of faith.  Soaring spires, the edges that sever prayers. As fascinating as the churches themselves, and just as precarious.

I'm not familiar with "The Dresden Files", but this got me curious and wondering. Like your style too! Looking forward to reading some more.

"addictive as chocolate, or crack"
Crack is a bad addiction. Illeagal drugs are bad. You should not condone drug use on your site. God will punish you...so will the Moon.

And if I believe anything you say I should prepare for a quiet place with lovely little white coats and matching accesories:P

Why is it not hard for me to believe you would have matching accesories for that type of white coat? Only you would go out and buy matching shoes and a bracelet :)
