Once upon a time there was a land named food. I could vaguely remember this, but the application of it usually failed. I stare at Mouse's bowl on the way to the fridge. I stumble slightly as he pushes me into the door.

"I got it--your food. Momentary lapse."

Mouse stares seriously at me, then walks back and slumps in front of the couch. I open the door: scurrilous looking pickles, a package of green luncheon meat (green=bad?), and a jar of natural peanut butter. I grab the peanut butter and a spoon and collapse on the couch. Mouse opens an eye and huffs at me.

"It's protein. It'll serve--go back to sleep."

I sat there with a spoonful of peanut butter in my mouth, wondering how long it would be before the phone rang.

"No longer alone. Return. Skin itches, stretch--feel the rocks break. Roots pushing. Come."

Eyes and a vague form in the black. Sound of water lapping.

I wake up with a drizzle of peanut butter on my chin, and  the spoon stuck to my chest. Mouse has his head pressed against my leg, grumbling up at me. I rest my hand on his head and scratch his ears.

"Stalking me in my sleep now--this is going to be good."

That's it .Please be kind with comments, first attempt at fanfic, and it has been years since I have been in writing courses:)
