Tea Quote

Found in a discarded Tricycle magazine at work today (Buddhist publication), but one of my favourite Buddhist writers.

"I am real, and the tea is real. I am in the present. I don't think about the past. I don't think of the future. There is a real encounter between me and the tea, and peace, happiness, and joy are possible during the time I drink.

When you hold your cup, you may like to breathe in, to bring your mind back to your body, and you become fully present. And when you are truly there, something else is also there - life, represented by the cup of tea. In that moment you are real, and the cup of tea is real. You are not lost in the past, in the future, in your projects, in your worries. You are free from all of these afflictions. And in that state of being free, you enjoy your tea. That is the moment of happiness, and of peace." Thich Nhat Hanh.

It may not always happen, but when I am in pain, under stress, or needing a little sense of home/connection - those lovely tannins are what I reach for. Tonight absinthe was quite good, but not the same.

I like the effects of absinthe, but I hate the taste.

I have a high tolerance for alcohol, and this is probably the first time I have ever felt the intense effects(though I know absinthe has its own properties other than spirits). I think I may invest in a bottle, since I love anything with the taste of anisette, fennel, or licorice (I even eat Dutch triple salted..lol)

Tea sounds brilliant. I've managed to pound back about 3 cups of coffee since 4PM in coping with work crap, so sleep won't be happening for a while anyway.
