Give me the length of your day and I will weave iron
and copper, crumbling words -
Shale and sand.
Steel will cloak your stutter and the flake
Of your sun-charred skin, the memory of fire
Long past the day.

The forge is drowned in waters
never kissed by light. I discover missives
powdered by blackened ash, sighs chastised
by lofty Fahrenheit.

Your tongue winks in scattered cursive
Our sundered fingers will not be bound.
