Leslie Plewes 1946-2012

My uncle died this morning. Mom called me at work, and I came home. We will be going over to my grandparents again later, as my grandfather was at a senior's home for the day, and doesn't know. We had tea and told my grandmother.

He was a carpenter, farrier, and fisherman who made his own flies by hand. A self-confessed redneck, he loved hunting, westerns and action movies, and could not stand to be alone. He loved to tease me (though I gave him shit in return), and torment his sisters, and was more fragile than he liked people to know. Grandfather to his daughter-in-law's son Garret, when that little boy had no other male figure in his life. He took Garret fishing, gave him a remote-controlled helicopter, and brought Garret seashells we gave my uncle when he visited us. Les was given a second chance with a heart transplant (20 years), and survived cancer twice.

His ashes will be scattered between the Milk river in Alberta (his favourite hunting ground with his son and my grandfather), and the ocean here in BC (where he always wanted to go fishing).

I imagine him on a house on the plains, near a river, with his horse Maggie. A horizon ahead, beckoning him on.

Thank you. I am currently trying to find Discworld icons, so if you know any sites, throw them my way?

We both have tomorrow off, just so you know. I may ask Wombat if he wants to go for a walk/drive.

Thanks! I found a couple, but yours will come in handy, since what I found doesn't list who made them (I am just stating it wasn't me).
