I Cannot Express

How much I love my uncle, and once the numbness wears off things will be different. He died last night, on his birthday. I knew it would be today, I don't know how.  He was so sweet, knew when I wanted to sit in silence, took his tea with too much sugar, and answered any question I had as if I were an adult. He is the one that told me that the forest companies didn't replant after they clearcut areas. He was unfailingly honest, and a diehard introvert. I feel like part of my childhood has just imploded. Here is a picture of my uncle and father, sitting in a water trough. My uncle is on t he left, my father on the right (he was very ginger). My aunt had it on display at my grandmother's service. I have this image on a mug, and I use it only on special occasions. I will make tea in it now.

My aunt told us there will be a celebration of life in the spring, but no service as none of us are  particularly religious.

Thanks, I'll try. It is always easier to do it for others.

Thanks. I am trying to decide if I should take a compassionate day tomorrow, like mom is. I just don't know anything right now.

Take one. Please? You're going to need time to deal with this, and right now you are probably a little numb. Take the time and just be, okay?

*hugs again*

I know I should. It is just that the board meeting is on Sat(hence me having today off in lieu), and I am thinking about things I have to do. That, and a staff briefing just went around about how many days people are allowed to have off every year before HR becomes involved ( and 8 respectively). I know, I am obsessing over moronic things, but there you are. Oh and I am more than a little numb, and enjoying my wine, indeed.

I looked up the government regs, because I thought there was something you could use, but he's your uncle and the employment rules are stupidly strict on what they consider 'immediate family'. Stupid government. There might be some consideration for a family death in your workplace agreement, though.

If you do go in, try to get in early, and go straight to a supervisor, explain what's happened, and try to go as easy on yourself as you can.

I really wish I could be there to help. I don't know how to help, but I wish I could be there for you. :-/

I looked it up too, and I am not sure. I don't expect to get paid for it anyway. I called my boss and left a message saying that he had died, and I wouldn't be in tomorrow, but back Wednesday. I figure that is enough information for her. I had told her that he was in the hospital after I made the last post here, and we didn't expect him to make it.

It's ok, I know you would if you could:) I never know what to do, it is different every bloody time.

I'm relieved you're taking the day off. And yeah. :-/

Thanks. Going to attempt to sleep now. Still numb, except for the brief reaction after the call.

Thanks. As caffienekitty pointed out yesterday, it has been two weeks, though I have lost what little sense of time I have as of late. I am a fairly decent actor at work at least, so no one has asked recently.
